The Feast Day of Sant’Erasmo and San Giovanni Battista

The patron saints of the town of Formia are Sant’Erasmo and San Giovanni Battista. The feast of Sant’Erasmo is celebrated on the 2nd June and the feast of San Giovanni is celebrated on the 24th June. There are religious processions throughout many disticts of the town, music and entertainmnet and firework displays.

Thank you to Pirovagando for giving me permission to use their photographs below

During the processions the statues of the saints are carried onto a boat and sailed around the harbour.

Street illuminations on display during the celebrations.

At the end of the celebrations there is always a spectacular firework display set off from the harbour.
